From a standard enclosure to your production part

Traxis modifies a standard enclosure to the requirements of your product drawing. Review covers the original part specification and the changes needed, including any marking or hardware that belongs in the finished assembly.

Machining and assembly operations

Traxis machines the openings and threaded features shown on the drawing, with marking and assembly available as part of the job.

  • Cutouts for connectors, displays, switches, vents, and cable glands
  • Drilled and tapped hole patterns
  • Counterbores
  • Engraving and part marking
  • Hardware installation

Types of enclosure we modify

Traxis works with off-the-shelf boxes, cases, and chassis in plastic or metal:

  • NEMA and washdown boxes
  • Instrument cases
  • Rack-mount chassis

The shop can purchase the enclosure by part number or work with customer-supplied units.

Built for repeat programs

Electronics, energy, and test-equipment manufacturers return to Traxis for successive releases of modified enclosures.

For documentation requirements, see our inspection and reporting method.

Programs kept

The CNC program is retained for future releases.

Fixtures kept

Fixtures are saved for repeat orders.

In-house programming

Machining programs are prepared in Fusion 360 with posts tuned to the shop’s machines.

What to send for a quote

Traxis needs the enclosure specification and modification details to review the job:

  • Your company name and the quantity per release (and expected repeat volume, if you know it)
  • The enclosure make and model, and whether you will supply the units
  • A STEP model plus a PDF drawing showing cutouts, hole patterns, threads, and any engraving
  • Hardware part numbers for anything we install
  • Inspection or documentation requirements, such as a first-article report

Enclosure modification FAQ

Enclosure jobs are quoted individually, with a typical Traxis lead time of 2–4 weeks. Scheduling depends on the modifications, order quantity, availability of the base units, and shop capacity. The quote gives the schedule for the particular release.

Every enclosure job at Traxis receives final inspection against its drawing before shipment. First-article reports are available on request, recording measured results against numbered drawing characteristics. The reporting method also includes a visual check and the quality manager’s signature and date.

Across the shop, most Traxis orders are 2–250 pieces, with recurring batches of 1,000–1,200 several times a year and completed releases as large as 6,600. These figures describe all shipped work over the past three years, not enclosure programs alone. The minimum order is $250.

Enclosure pricing takes account of material, setup, cutting time, specified tolerances, and inspection needs. Traxis keeps CNC programs and fixtures for later orders of the same work. Pricing is quoted for the job and quantity being ordered.

Yes. Traxis reviews NDA requirements before receiving project drawings. Contact the shop first so the agreement can be considered before you submit the design. Once the RFQ is underway, the portal keeps files and project messages with the request.

Traxis customers use the portal to follow order status and keep project messages together. It also supports reorders and access to invoices after shipment. The same portal handles quote review and acceptance, so correspondence about a release stays with the job.

For order placement and delivery, see the quoting and ordering process.
